[OOC] Application for Lost Carnival
May. 9th, 2017 09:17 pmPLAYER? Name: Raile Contact: Other Characters: Foster van Denend (OC) CHARACTER? Character Name: Vincent Valentine Age: 60 Species: (Formerly) Human Canon: Final Fantasy VII Canon Point: Post Advent Children (Dirge of Cerberus canon fully excluded) Character Info: The wiki. The Deepground Crisis and DoC-specific plot establishments are fully excluded from this character app, for continuity purposes. Personality: Vincent Valentine is, genuinely, a quiet man with a brooding--and sometimes mysterious--presence. He comes off as ominous, the penultimate stoic--from an external view, he shows (and often feels) very little in the way of emotion, spending most of his time by himself and routinely returning even simple questions or overtures with complete silence. When he does participate in social situations, he is slightly uncomfortable and decidedly cryptic, preferring to maintain a cold, professional distance from the situation and the people around him. More of than not, he is severe and often abrupt--not necessarily curt, as one might think, but he regularly condenses his communication into as few words as possible or demonstrates his meaning in silent gesture instead of speaking. Despite his no-nonsense character and heartless exterior, there's a fairly human reason for this behaviour: he's sincerely bad at people, and is not above disguising the fact that he doesn't know what to say by... simply saying nothing and letting people assume intentions without elaboration or design. Doing this serves a greater purpose by giving him a chance to feel a situation out. Not the worst form of calculated deception, but certainly not the most sincere approach. Given time, he prefers to disseminate things in detail. Vincent is a creature of (honestly excessive) thought as well as action, and despite his apparent impulsivity, many of his conclusions are intellectually, not emotionally, motivated. For Vincent, however, guilt is often the strongest motivator of all, and much of his action through Final Fantasy VII and Advent Children is driven by it. See, he keeps it to himself more now than he used to, but Vincent fundamentally views himself as a sinner, unworthy and incapable of penance or redemption, and holds himself deeply responsible for many things that are not conclusively or even reasonably his fault, carrying their burden as an immense weight on his soul. Unlike the other members of AVALANCHE and most of their supporting cast, Vincent is not necessarily a 'good guy'--he has his own agenda and supports it the entire way through, doing as he feels and sees fit for himself and his own causes. He is not, as he will tell you up front, a hero. Without the sugarcoating, the facts are these: Vincent is a dangerous and very self-motivated person with questionable (if extant) morals. He does what he feels he has to, but not out of any sense of self-sacrifice, save for where Lucrecia is concerned. For her, he might quite possibly end the world. Instead, he stopped it from ending. Which is nice, but he's still carrying a lot of baggage, and he mostly seems to be looking for ways to increase his load. As far as his own well-being goes, Vincent is utterly fearless. He is, however, definitively afraid of himself and the knowledge of things he has the potential to do. He is extremely dangerous and is imminently aware of it, holding within himself four demons over which he exerts little to no control. This affects his decision to separate himself from other people as well as justifies it, and the distance he keeps grows over time as he becomes more and more familiar with the terrible possibilities of the things about himself he cannot control. Like his (literal) demons. His unpredictability and hair-trigger reflexes can result in instincts and reactions that can hurt others, and his own psyche is effectively out to destroy what it can whenever he is unable to stop it from doing so. He is imminently afraid of failure--he has sinned enough in his life, and bears the guilt with stoic resignation and a sense of responsibility, but the prospect of failing further drives him to both action and isolation in equal turns. Honestly, Vincent is as much a liability to himself as he is a powerful weapon. His sense of guilt and self-incrimination is his biggest weakness; he holds back a lot and communicates little, isolating himself from others and warning them away from him at the slightest provocation. He's prone to irrationally blaming himself for things simply because he was present. He is also extraordinarily stubborn and (among other things) will never ask for help, refusing to do so even for simple things, let alone what he may genuinely need help with. It's worth noting, though, that in Advent Children, he's shown to be comfortable enough with the other members of AVALANCHE and their families that he can interact with them without so much... uh, baggage in the way. He's protective of Marlene, supportive (in his own way) of Cloud, and even demonstrates a very, VERY understated sense of humour. Having been a member of the Carnival for over a year now, he's started to learn to relax within its bounds--although it's a precarious balancing act. Can't seem too human. People might expect him to open up or something. Abilities: Ostensibly, Vincent is unkillable. He doesn't age, he can't die from physical wounds, and if you hit him enough, he turns into winged purple Satan and wrecks your shit. In Lost Carnival, though, he's checked his effective invincibility at the door, and he only rarely even misses it. He still turns into winged purple Satan, though. And he still has his inhuman speed and incredible strength, because those are basically just the result of how fucking magic he is, right along with his inexplicable ability to fly by just deciding he's done with having a physical form and becoming a fluid mass of smoke and possibly cloak fabric until he lands. His exceptional accuracy and precision (which he fucking worked for, by the way, he underwent years of training and actually earned that merit badge) have been augmented with superhuman senses, which are kind of a headache, honestly, and reflexes that take the term "lightning fast" to a new level. Also, even when he's not turning into Satan, he is quite capable of crushing a man's skull with his clawed hand. All of these make him a formidable weapon, and he uses them as seamlessly as most people seem to breathe; when he puts his mind to it, Vincent is a killing machine. Which is great, I guess, but his ability to murder shit is basically the only job skill he has, so that's more awkward than impressive. So just imagine what he was like BEFORE he was basically resurrected to contain a bunch of magic. Equally awkward is the fact his limit breaks are overwhelmingly powerful, but they're at least as much a weakness a strength, because he frequently has no control over where they go and what they do. They just take over him completely, and destroy everything in their path. There are four different transformations, demonstrated here. While he can choose to undergo a transformation at any time, his control over these forms is limited at best when it's voluntary, and utterly nonexistent when it's not. It's not a pleasant process, and is absolutely hell on his clothes. It's a good thing he's super magic, because otherwise his stupid red cloak would not survive any of this bullshit. Oh, right. Also. He has some magic rocks. They're actually more like.... if the core of the planet contained the planetary version of tree sap, and the planetary tree sap was made of souls and magic life force, and a drop of that solidified into a bead, that's Materia. Anyone can use them, though, he's not special for it. [His Materia are as follows: Lightning, Ice, Seal, Steal, MP Absorb, Enemy Skill, All, Counter, Destruct, Exit, and Time. He surrenders NeoBahamut and Ramuh to the Ring Master upon first contract, along with the gun the Materia were originally in. I'm pretending he doesn't have full Materia in his armour slots because that's like 16 fucking Materia. Ten is a lot, even if not all of them are attacks or even usable in the gun.] CARNIVAL? Soul Colour: Dark purple Ideal Jobs: Patrol, Mercenary... honestly he has no useful skills that don't involve killing people it's kind of awkward Relevant Experience: HE KILLS PEOPLE, CARL. Carnival History: After the vampire attack, he went undercover with the vampires for the Ring Master, and thereby escaped having to work under Mari Illustrious Makinami as the new Night Rider. No word on whether or not Mari's promotion had anything to do with that decision. After the Vacation To Hell plot, he took the liberty of... cleaning up... after the Carnival's rescue/assault, but now has returned to deliver his intel and see if there's anything else for him to do. Also, he's come to collect on his second contract. First Contract: To preserve what AVALANCHE worked for Details: No more fucking apocalypses, PLEASE. Give the Planet a Future. (This is also possibly an explanation for Red XIII's babies, depending on how you feel about Denne??) Second Contract: Materia Gun (to replace the gun he surrenders to the Ring Master because guns are Banned.) His actual wording was probably something curt and simple like "I need a gun." Details: A bulletless gun that can be loaded with a Materia and "shoot" the Materia's effect. Fairly straightforward with Materia like... say, Fire or Time (Slow and Stop are better choices than Haste, though... unless your target is an ally.) Less straightforward with Materia like Steal (materialises what you're stealing in your free hand or pocket, but as usual you can't really predict what you get.) Not recommended for use with Cure, Restore, or Revive. Cannot be used with Summons or All Materia of any kind; certain other Materia like Counter and Enemy Skill are also useless because how the fuck does that even work in a gun that "shoots" an effect. (It doesn't. That's how.) And for the record, he can't shoot anything else but Materia effects. It's just a fancy magic launcher, but it makes him feel better, okay. Current Contract: A hot dog. Details: ............ Current Changes: Common: Fangs, claws, forked tongue, small horns, brassgold and red feathers in his hair, eye colour changes Uncommon: digitigrade legs, full body scales, reptile face Rare: Shell Armour (TM) SAMPLES? Just fuckin take them |
